Leeds Confirm Peltier Signing

Leeds United have completed the signing of Leicester City defender Lee Peltier. The 25-year-old former Liverpool trainee joins for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year contract with the club. The highly rated right-back is a long-time target of manager Neil Warnock and he opted for a move to Leeds despite interest from a number of clubs. Lee, who started his career with Liverpool, making four appearances for the club, has made over 200 career appearances during spells with Yeovil and Huddersfield before his move to Leicester in the summer of 2011.

Peltier set to Complete Leeds Move

Leicester City defender Lee Peltier should complete a switch to Leeds in the next 48 hours.It is understood that Leeds are confident a deal will soon be struck. The 25-year-old will then have to negotiate the details of a pay-off from Leicester City before joining the Elland Road squad.Peltier has been with City for just over a year, having joined from Huddersfield in a £750,000 deal.Peltier, who can play as a defender or midfielder, began his career at the Liverpool youth set-up. He graduated from the academy in 2006, and that year made four first team appearances for the Reds.The youngster soon caught the eye of other clubs including Hull City, who in March 2007 signed him on loan until the end of the season.Yeovil Town also made a swoop for the player, securing him on loan in the summer of 2007. Peltier remained with the club for the rest of the season, and his stellar performance earned him a permanent contract in January 2008.He penned a three-year contract at Huish Park after The Glovers agreed a nominal fee.The following month manager Russell Slade told skysports.com he believed Peltier had a great future in the game.

“I'm very pleased with the signing,” he said. “In our opinion in the next 12 months he will be a Championship player. There's no doubt about that.

"He's already one of the best right-backs in the league, and I think it won't be long before he's the best.”

In June 2009, having made 49 league starts for Yeovil Town, Peltier signed a three-year contract with Huddersfield Town.

Terriers manager Lee Clark told the club's official website: "Lee is a player I know well. We had him on trial when I was assistant at Norwich, but we didn't have the finances to secure the deal.

"He's a fantastic athlete and is very accomplished on the ball, as you would expect given he was schooled at Liverpool.”

Peltier quickly became a firm favourite at the club, and in May 2010 was crowned players’ player of the season.

In July manager Lee Clark was forced to deny transfer talk linking Peltier with QPR. He insisted the Terriers had received no approach for the player, and said that even if there were to be, the club would be looking for at least £3 million.

Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner: "It's absolute nonsense.

"Nobody at this club has had any contact with anyone from QPR and Lee Peltier's agent has told me he knows nothing about the matter.”

The player was also linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers, but in August 2010 Peltier pledged his allegiance to Huddersfield by signing a new contract to stay at the Galpharm Stadium until 2014.

He told the club's official website: "I've signed an extended deal here because I see the ambition and where the club wants to go; that made the decision easy for me.

"I wouldn't have signed a new contract for such a long period if I didn't think we could succeed.”

But less than a year later, in June 2011, reports suggested Leicester were in talks to sign the defender. Leicester assistant manager Derek Fazackerley was a big fan of Peltier, having worked him during his time at Huddersfield.

Huddersfield accepted an undisclosed bid for the player later that month.

Huddersfield Chairman Dean Hoyle said of the player, who made 103 appearances in his two seasons with the club: "Of course we are disappointed to be losing a player of his quality but that is the nature of football, and Leicester matched our valuation for Lee.”

Peltier signed a three-year deal with the club.

Leicester football director Andrew Neville said: "He's an exciting addition with his best years ahead of him, which is vital as we build for the long term."

In July this year it emerged Leeds United had made an official approach for the defender. The bid was rejected, as was a proposal put forward by former team Huddersfield.

However, Neil Warnock went on to make a second attempt at securing Peltier. The player is now believed to be undergoing a medical at the club.
