Leicester City and Leeds United are leading the chase for Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson.

Skysports.com understands that Championship duo Leicester City and Leeds United are leading the chase for Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson.

Johnson has endured two injury-hit seasons at Eastlands but is now ready for action and City want to loan him out in order to bolster match fitness.

Leicester are keen to bolster their midfield options and see Johnson as the ideal addition while Leeds boss Simon Grayson is aware he may need to strengthen if Bradley Johnson leaves.

City boss Roberto Mancini has voiced his opinion on Johnson's situation and the Italian tactician has confirmed the club are keen for him to get first-team football under his belt.

When asked if any City players could leave the club before the transfer window closes, he replied: "Maybe Michael Johnson because I think that he needs to play.

"It is important for him, so if we have a chance, Michael Johnson (will go)."
