KEVIN AND CHRIS - NEVER FORGOTTEN

Tuesday April 5 marks the 11th anniversary of the passing of Leeds United fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight.
Kevin and Chris were brutally murdered in Istanbul on the eve of the UEFA Cup semi-final clash against Galatasaray in 2000, and their memory will never be forgotten by Leeds United fans worldwide.
Familes and friends of Kevin and Chris long campagned for justice following the events in Istanbul in April 2000 and late last year it was announced that Ali Umi Demir, Ali Baydar (six years eight months),Suleyman Gokhan Guven (10 years) and Yilmaz Tutush (five years), who were all initially convicted of murdering Kevin and Christopher, had lost their appeal and would return to prison to serve sentences totaling 28 years and 4 months.
Familes, friends, and Leeds United fans worldwide also teamed up during the 2009/10 season to raise money for Candelighters in memory of Kevin and Chris and a host of fund raising events brought in over £100,000 for charity.
Tributes were also paid on the 10th anniversary with a minute's silence at Elland Road and the laying of wreaths by the players being followed by a remembrance dinner. Two days later at Yeovil, the travelling fans turned their backs to the game for the first minute, in a repeat of the scenes ahead of that fateful UEFA Cup tie.
Kevin and Chris will always have a special place in the hearts of Leeds United fans.
