Grayson Chasing Forssell

Leeds are being linked with Mikael Forssell, the former Birmingham City forward who is out of contract. The 30-year-old Finnish international striker, who made his name at Chelsea, has been on trial at West Ham.He has not believed to have been offered a contract by the Hammers and Leeds are rumoured to be ready to offer the player a deal.Born in Germany, Forssell began his career with Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi (aka HJK) of Finland before moving to England in order to join Chelsea in 1998.After seven years and just 33 appearances for the Blues – a spell that included loan spells at Crystal Palace, Borussia Monchengladbach and Birmingham – the 6′ striker completed a permanent £3million switch to Birmingham in 2005.

When City were relegated from the Premier League in 2008, Forssell joined German side Hannover 96 on a free transfer, where he remained until his release at the end of last season.Leeds manager Simon Grayson has turned his mind to recruiting another forward after a thigh strain suffered by Paynter compounded an injury list which already featured Luciano Becchio and Davide Somma, two of the club’s leading scorers last season
