Leeds Trying to Hijack Westwood's Sunderland Switch

LEEDS are bidding to sabotage Keiren Westwood’s move to Sunderland after agreeing to sell their first-choice keeper Kasper Schmeichel to Leicester.
Former Coventry star Westwood has been heavily tipped to sign for the Black Cats on a Bosman free transfer but Leeds boss Simon Grayson wants to lure the 26-year-old to Elland Road. The Championship outfit have accepted a £1.5 million offer from Leicester for Schmeichel after Grayson claimed the Dane was unlikely to sign a contract extension. Schmeichel denied that he wanted to leave but seems destined for the Walkers Stadium.Grayson is a long-time admirer of Republic of Ireland keeper Westwood and will launch an ambitious late bid to persuade the out-of-contract Coventry star to remain in the second tier. The ex-Carlisle gloveman is well known to Leeds fans from his time with the Blues, with Westwood starring in the clubs’ play-off semi-final clash in 2008.

Reports in the north-east maintain the former Blues hero remains likely to join Steve Bruce’s Premier League side

Leeds are also reported to be interested in free agent Jason Brown following his release from Blackburn, although they face competition from Cardiff.Goalkeeper Brown has been released by Rovers and a string of Championship clubs have shown an interest in him.
Both Leeds and Cardiff have taken Brown on loan in the past and the 29-year-old is back on their radar once again.
